Supporting Local Artisans in Braintree
The Makers Market is a unique space dedicated to showcasing handmade crafts by talented local artisans. Co-owned by Charlette Robichaud and Kristina Bean-Robichaud, this charming shop is more than just a retail store; it’s a community hub for creators and craft enthusiasts alike.
A vibrant space that exclusively features handmade products from local artisans. With 35 vendors currently involved, the market offers a diverse range of high-quality, unique items. To maintain a diverse selection, The Makers Market limits its vendors to just two of each type of product. This thoughtful curation ensures that customers always have access to a wide array of crafts and creations.
Charlette and Kristina infuse The Makers Market with a deep sense of passion and personal commitment, shaped by their diverse backgrounds and love for the arts. After spending 35 years in the finance industry, Charlette felt it was time for a new direction.
“I realized I wanted to do something more fulfilling and meaningful,” she explains. “I wanted to create a space where I could help showcase the incredible work of local artisans and bring their amazing creations to the community.”
Kristina shares this enthusiasm, and together, they have created a welcoming environment that reflects their dedication to supporting local talent and fostering a vibrant arts community.
What Makes The Makers Market Special?
The Makers Market stands out in the artisan space for several reasons. Not only do they handpick all the artisans they showcase, but they also offer a range of in-house classes for all skill levels. Whether you are a beginner looking to explore a new hobby or an advanced creator wanting to refine your skills, there is a class for you. Customers can easily sign up for these classes on The Makers Market’s website.
“We offer classes for everyone from beginners to advanced creators,” says Charlette.
“It’s a wonderful way to get hands-on experience and learn from
talented artisans in our community.”
In addition to classes, The Makers Market is also a convenient spot for purchasing craft supplies. Whether you’re attending a class or working on your own projects at home, they have everything you need to get started and keep creating. This combination of high-quality products, educational opportunities, and supplies has garnered them a lot of positive feedback from the community. “I always hear our prices are fantastic, and I like to think so too,” Charlette adds.
Supporting the Community
The Makers Market isn’t just about selling crafts; it’s about building community. Having lived in Braintree for 35 years, Charlette is committed to giving back. The shop proudly collaborates with Higashi Studios, featuring ceramics handcrafted by their students. These items are some of the most sought-after products in the store.
“We’re very proud to work with Higashi Studios,” Charlette says. “These ceramics are among the most popular items in our shop.”
Running a small business is never without its hurdles, and The Makers Market is no exception. “Being noticed is the hardest part,” Charlette admits. “As a new shop, getting the word out has been a significant challenge. We want people to know we’re here, offering something unique in Braintree.”
Despite these challenges, Charlette and Kristina have found ways to succeed. One major advantage has been the support from BELD. “BELD’s electric rates are a huge help,” Charlette says. “Their competitive rates make a big difference in our ability to manage costs effectively. Lower utility expenses allow us to focus more on growing our business and providing quality products.”
The future is bright for The Makers Market. Charlette and Kristina are excited to continue growing their business, sharing more local artisans, and expanding their reach within the community. They are proud of the supportive, tight-knit community of vendors they’ve built and are eager to welcome more customers to their shop.
“Everyone in Braintree is always so generous and supportive of small businesses,” Charlette notes. “It’s wonderful to be a part of this community.”
As for what they’ve learned since starting their own business, Charlette reflects, “I’ve realized I have a lot more patience than I thought, and my time in finance definitely helped me manage and grow my own small business.”
