Ice Cream Emergency
Braintree, MA

Meet the local duo bringing smiles (and sundaes) to the South Shore.

If you’ve spotted a big, red emergency bus packed with ice cream cruising into local schools, weddings, or company parties—don’t worry, there’s no actual emergency. Unless the sprinkles run out.
Ice Cream Emergency, owned and operated by Katherine and Matt Montmeny, isn’t your average ice cream truck. It’s a full-fledged mobile sundae parlor on wheels, and it’s become one of the most joy-filled, community-loved businesses in the Braintree area.
“We’re not just handing out cones from a window,” says Katherine.

“We bring the full experience—ice cream, sundae toppings, smiles, happiness, music, and all!”
Katherine, a physical therapist by trade, always felt like something was missing—until a friend introduced her to the Ice Cream Emergency franchise. “It just clicked,” she recalls. “I’ve always loved bringing joy to others — and now I do it one scoop at a time, right here in our own community”

Matt, a self-proclaimed buffalo wing guy (when not eating ice cream), wasn’t always sure he’d become a business owner—but here they are, running a mobile ice cream shop with their daughter MacKenzie, a proud “Resident Scoopologist.”

Their official territory includes Braintree and surrounding South Shore towns—but you won’t find them randomly rolling through neighborhoods playing jingles. They’re by appointment only, and appointments are stacking up faster than a triple-scoop sundae.

At its core, Ice Cream Emergency is all about the experience. Yes, the ice cream is rich and creamy (try the Brookie Dough Blast or Salted Caramel—fan favorites), but it’s how it’s served that makes it unforgettable.
Customers step onto the decked-out bus, are greeted by upbeat music (think Can’t Stop The Feeling by JT), and choose from a lineup of sundaes and toppings—hot fudge, whipped cream, M&Ms, you name it. The team serves everything with allergy awareness in mind, including gluten-free options.
“We can serve about 100 people an hour,” says Matt. “We’re like an event dream team.”

The Montmenys have served birthday blowouts, school celebrations, bar mitzvahs, backyard bashes, teacher appreciation days, and even rolled right into a custom-built barn for a dream wedding. They’ve made surprise visits to local schools, donated sundaes to bus drivers, and even scooped for a corrections officer appreciation event at Norfolk Prison.
The launch event at Braintree Town Hall was amazing and brought in over 300 people. “That day was magic,” Katherine says. “We’ll never forget it.”
Favorite moment?
“Children’s events—seeing the excitement on their faces makes everything worth it. Sometimes they’re knocking on the bus door before we even finish setting up!”

“Running a mobile business has its quirks. The schedule can be flexible—but also demanding. The logistics are real, and the freezer? Non-negotiable. An absolute must-have. ‘The key is loving what you do,’ Katherine advises. ‘Don’t stress over the little things. Find your calling—and go for it!'”

The Braintree community has embraced Ice Cream Emergency with open arms. With them focused on staying busy, doing more events, and spreading more happiness—one scoop at a time, how can you not?
Bookings often come months in advance (some even a year out), but they always try to squeeze folks in if there’s an opening. “Just reach out—especially if you’re craving hot fudge.”
